Improve mobility Access to Sarah Wray Hall
May 2024
To improve access to Sarah Wray Hall for our patrons with mobility or vision difficulties, we’re replacing the loose gravel around the side and back of the building with recycled asphalt.
Approximately 40% of Area A residents are over 65, and many experience mobility or vision difficulties. To improve access to Sarah Wray Hall and create a safer environment for all, we’re fundraising to replace the loose gravel around the side and back of the building with compacted crushed asphalt, a more suitable and safer material for patrons with mobility and vision impairments.
While a ramp to the back deck enables access to the rear entrance of the hall, key gravel-covered areas around the outside of the building are problematic. Visitors with sight issues or who use any kind of wheeled or mobility device (wheelchairs, walkers, strollers, canes, crutches, etc.) face tripping and other hazards while using the current uneven gravel pathways. Resurfacing areas of the site with compacted crushed asphalt will create a smooth, solid walking surface and will improve overall visibility. The replacement plan includes a sidewalk-width path from the road (C) and the parking lot (B), to the accessible ramp and entrance at the rear of the building (A). Our goal is to raise $3,000
to help cover materials and installation costs. How to Donate Etransfer to penderharbourheritage@gmail.com. Please write "mobility" in the note area.
